When to Begin Tummy Time

One of the best ways to support your baby’s early development is by introducing tummy time right from the start—yes, even during those precious first days home. Experts typically suggest beginning tummy time as soon as your baby arrives, keeping the sessions very short at first. This can be just a few seconds, a few times a day.
Don’t worry if your little one isn’t thrilled at first. Many newborns find this new perspective a bit strange and may tire quickly or get fussy. That’s perfectly normal! Begin with brief sessions and gradually increase the time as your baby’s neck, back, and shoulders get stronger. You can always scoop them up for a cuddle and try again later.
Aim for around 15 to 20 minutes of tummy time spread throughout the day by the time your baby is a few weeks old. Remember, every baby is unique—watch for your baby’s cues and adjust as needed. If you have any concerns or questions, your pediatrician can offer personalized guidance to ensure tummy time is a positive, nurturing experience.

To make tummy time more engaging and comfortable, try using a baby floor blanket specifically designed to support early development. Our Baby Geometrics floor blanket features bold, high-contrast patterns in black, white, and red that capture your baby’s attention and stimulate visual development. The soft, cushioned surface gives your baby a cozy space to practice lifting their head, turning, and strengthening their upper body muscles—all key milestones in the first few months. Whether you're starting tummy time on day one or building up to longer sessions, the right environment makes all the difference. A high-quality tummy time blanket can help your baby stay engaged, safe, and happy as they grow stronger every day.
